Understanding What Explainable AI Is

Explainable AI is a concept of artificial intelligence and how it relates to decisions made by users. This is the generic definition. Explainable AI is a decision-making process for specific problems that are understood by human beings have problem-solving skills for those specific problems.

Disadvantages of Explainable AI

The approach to explainable AI is allowing the AI system to highlight the key parts of the input that were used to make a decision. Some have developed systems in which AI found the evidence it needed to answer a question or make a suggestion. There are disadvantages to these developments.

Most of the time, these explanations can be complicated or wrong. These approaches can oversimplify the reason for a suggestion which was made in a complex manner. There are several instances in which there’s not enough time to sift through this information or analyze the data. Some AI technologies are more transparent than others, making some of the most complex methods even harder.

What is the Driving Force for Explainable AI

The two most common forces behind explainable AI is DARPA-XAI and LIME. The U.S. Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) released its own Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) project to create a software library toolkit made that’s used for explainable AI. Researchers implemented their own version of explainable AI systems.

Another tool that was used is called Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME). It highlights the features of an image or text that’s responsible for that final result. Explainable AI is not being used as much as it was in the past. There are emerging technologies that were applied in previous research projects.

Will Explainable AI Succeed?

There hasn’t been a perfect solution and it depends on the decisions involving these AI systems. Thanks to AI technology, there are autonomous vehicles, self-driving aerospace planes, improved medications, drones, and other technologies. As these technologies become more complex, it’ll be difficult to determine simple rules to these complex AI systems.

If these rules were easier to understand, then it wouldn’t be likely to develop a complex system. It’s important for people to understand how and why AI works the way it does. Explainable AI is critical when it comes to the future of robotic machine learning. Understanding this technology can help reduce automated data entry errors.
