Google used to be sued this week by a worker who claimed the company did not pay additional time, improperly labeled him as an unbiased contractor then terminated him after he requested for extra hours to be covered beneath his contract.

The case, filed in a new York federal court docket on Wednesday, seeks to proceed as a collective motion on behalf of alternative Google Inc workers.

A Google representative didn’t in an instant reply to a request for remark.

How firms classify their workers has bought increased consideration. In August a federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled that FedEx drivers are staff underneath California regulation, no longer contractors. It’s doubtful how that ruling may just influence the broader tech sector, although companies like car rent provider Uber also imagine their drivers to be unbiased contractors.
