The year 2018 has seen some cool new tech already hit the markets. From the virtual reality headset Oculus Go to Apples’ new smart speaker HomePod and the handy alcohol tracking wearable Proof, there has been no shortage of new tech gadgets to sample this year so far.
Here are some more exciting tech launches still to come, and what you can expect this year:
1. Samsung Galaxy Note 9
Samsung is expected to debut its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 9, later this year. According to Forbes magazine, Samsung’s highly anticipate flagship phone will be “the first mass-market smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint reader as well as a huge 4,000 mAh battery.”
Given that the Note 7 was announced and launched in August 2016 and the Galaxy Note 8 was announced in August 2017 and launched the following month, it’s probably safe to assume the Note 9 will also debut right around those same months this year.
Question is can you wait a few more months for Samsung’s next big smartphone release date?
2. iPhone SE 2
Many people probably expect Apple’s follow-up to the iPhone X (the iPhone XI, if Apple continues with its roman numerals) will be the highlight of the company’s new releases this year. However, for those who prefer a smaller phone, their eyes will inevitably drift towards Apple’s little beast, the iPhone SE.
The diminutive handset launched in 2016 has won many hearts with its premium design and usability. While the SE hasn’t gotten an upgrade beyond storage options introduced in 2017, this is set to change with the release of the SE2 this year. Rumours suggest the second-gen iPhone SE will launch at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June 2018 in San Jose, California.
3. New Mac Pro
An Apple product everyone expected, with almost absolute certainty, would be released in 2018 was a new Mac Pro. But, it turns out that a new Mac Pro (the first update to the product in more than four years) has actually been confirmed for a 2019 release date.
Oh, no. Seems you have to wait a little while longer for your Mac Pro upgrade.
4. Microsoft Surface Watch
Microsoft may have conceded smartphone market share to Android and iOS, but rumours suggest the tech giant is set to make its first foray into the smartwatch market under the Surface brand. Whether the Surface smartwatch from Microsoft follows familiar designs or a new one entirely remains to be seen.
It’s not clear when exactly the Surface smartwatch hits the markets, but it launches this year. If you have an iPhone, don’t worry. You can transfer your contacts really simply.
5. The Harry Potter game
A new Harry Potter mobile game from the people behind ‘Pokémon Go’ is coming in 2018. After ‘Pokémon Go’ took the world by storm in 2016, it will be exciting to see what the upcoming Pokémon Go-style, Harry Potter-based role-playing video game looks like.
